Education Overview

Ghana’s Education System is considered one of the best in West Africa with fairly high standards which is a result of the peace and stability the country enjoys, working policies put in place by the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service, who are the institutions in charge of initiation and policy formulation.

The efforts of students, contribution of parents, guardians, teachers, schools and stakeholders are equally priceless. Availability of teachers and textbooks is another contributor to the growth in the sector.

This notwithstanding, there are issues such as lack of modern or technological approaches to teaching and learning which causes the sector to lurk behind to some extent internationally.

Even with this hindrance and others, students from Ghana are able to compete with their peers on the  international level and  perform tremendously well.

The World Economic Forum, a Swiss non-profit foundation, ranked Ghana 46th out of 148 countries for education system quality.

The Stages

Made up of Kindergarten, Primary and Lower Secondary School (Age  – 15 years).

Includes the Senior Schools and Technical Vocational Institutes (Ages 15 – 18 years).

Made up of the University, Polytechnics and Colleges (Age 19 – 23 years)

For details about the institutions in charge of policy formulation and implementation in the education sector, visit Ghana Education Service.

The Education indicators identify:

  • A Gender Gap.
  • Inequality between Rural and Urban Areas, the South and North.
  • Lack of I.C.T based learning aids as issues that need to be addressed to progress more steadily.

With the introduction of the Seekapor  E-Learning Portal into the system, these identified gaps and others will be bridged.
