5 TIPS TO KEEP YOU SAFE DURING THE HARMATTAN SEASON

Taking precautions to keep your environment clean, during this season should be paramount. This includes mowing of lawns to prevent reptiles: proper disposal of garbages: safeguarding your washrooms.

  •  For people who dispose of garbages by burning, it is recommended to put a stop to it or find a safe alternative during the harmattan season. Although the disposal of garbages by burning is efficient and cost-effective, it could be detrimental to continue to handle rubbish this way. The burning of garbages without any proper safeguard could lead to wildfires, especially if the area has a lot of dry leaves and tinny pieces of woods.
  •  One can either transport their garbages to the public disposal or create a fire belt before they set fire to it. Create a fire belt by creating a clean line between your garbages and the surrounding bushes. Pour water on the line that you have created to prevent the fire from spreading to the bushes.
  •  It is also recommended to keep your surroundings neat devoid of any overgrown bushes. Mow your lawn and trim your hedges to avoid creating a hiding place for dangerous reptiles and insects such as snakes and scorpions.
  •  In addition, always check your Water Closets (WC) at night before you sit on it. There have been reported cases of people finding snakes lurking in their WC during this time. It is believed that some reptiles tend to hide in sewages during this season due to the unfavourable weather conditions.

Furthermore, it is also advisable to keep your window blinds down and doors locked to prevent dust from entering your room.
Learn these tips and share them with your neighbours. It is our desire to see everyone safe and sound during this season.
