Boys Versus Girls

Boys Versus Girls

Without contributing to the argument of ‘who runs the world’ and ‘who is the man’ etc., let’s just admit, undoubtedly, that there are great differences between boys and girls. These differences are physical and have nothing to do with the brain development of both sexes. Some of the differences we see are these: Boys at 20 will look 18 and act 14.Girls on the other hand at 14, will act 20 and look 18.Girls will spend a lot of time in the salon and come out with something not so different from the previous style they had and boys will go to the barber’s and there is vast difference. Boys do not mind showing up at an event in the same outfit as their friends but girls will feel bad all through. Girls will use 3 hours to make up their minds about a particular dress but in 10mins, boys can complete same process.

Beyond these petty issues listed above, there is not much difference between a boy and a girl. Brain and behaviour development, for example has very little to do with gender. It has more to do with life experiences and exposure.

For both boys and girls to reach their full potential, they need same attention and encouragement from the get-go. Before getting deeper into the issue, let’s get the difference between Sex and Gender straight, According to the World Health Organisation, ‘Sex refers to the biological and physiological characteristics that define men and women and Gender refers to the socially constructed roles, behaviours, activities, and attributes that a given society considers appropriate for men and women’. By this definition, it is society that puts gender tags on a person. Thankfully, these tags are not placed on brain development and that justifies my point-there is not much difference between boys and girls.

Without sounding cliché, what a boy can do, a girl can do and what a girl can do, a boy can do too. At an early stage, children should be made to understand this phenomenon. Reading is not for girls and Maths is not for boys. Science is not boyish and sewing is not girlish. Writing beautifully is not a girl trait and drawing is not synonymous to boys. It is all about the brain. Feed it right, and it is nourished to function well. Breaking gender stereotypes is not punishable by law so push yourself, no matter your sex and achieve great feats.

Bertha Benz (née Ringer, 3 May 1849 – 5 May 1944) was a German automotive pioneer. She was the wife and business partner of automobile inventor Karl Benz. In 1888, she was the first person to drive an automobile over a long distance.

Walt Whitman, Le Roy Craig, Joe Hagan are a few men who ventured into the ‘feminine’ profession of nursing.
