Completing SHS, JHS is not ‘freedom’ From Learning – Graduates advised

Youth orientated organization, the Foundation for Future Generation (FOGET), has held another session of ‘Life after School Summit’ for Senior and Junior High School leavers to help them make informed choices on available opportunities and challenges.

Each year the Foundation holds the summit through a self-sponsorship scheme by the Founder and President, Prosper Dan Afetsi, to support the new graduates to build their lives while they await their results.

Addressing some JHS leavers in Accra last week, he drew attention to the fact that leaving school does not mean freedom to take a break from learning, but rather an opportunity for them to rehearse responsibilities ahead.

Mr Afetsi pointed out to the students that four principles guide success or failure in life: Choices, Determination, Associations and Detraction. He said among the four, the last two, especially Detraction/Detractors is usually the barrier that keeps people from achieving their goals.

The FOGET President urged the youth to associate themselves with persons who have a vision and can challenge them to aspire higher and work hard at their dreams.

He advised the JHS and SHS leavers to engage in extra curriculum activities including voluntary work or skill learning while they wait to begin the next stage of their education.

He noted that obtaining work experience through voluntary service was very critical to their future job creation and employment advantage.

He also appealed to them to take lessons in I.C.T – blogging,  personal website creation,  social media management,  Microsoft Office and database management.

Mr Afetsi reiterated the need for them not to shy away from artisanal skills like carpentry, masonry, electronics,  fashion designing, farming, among others.

“Nothing happens by chance unless we try hard at it,” he urged them

A youth enthusiast, Dr Bernard Kyei, further provided some life coaching lessons to the young graduates.
