FEBRUARY 14TH IS NATIONAL MATHEMATICS DAY

February 14th of every year has been set aside, by the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ghana Mathematics Society (GMS),  to be observed as National Mathematics Day.

The goal is to create awareness for the importance and use of Mathematics in everyday life. The theme for this year is on, “The Role of Mathematics in Ghana Beyond Aid”.

According to a  letter signed by the Accra Metro Director of Education, Mr Stephen Abamfo, “On this day, pre-schools learners (Primary One to senior high school (SHS Three) are engaged with Mathematics activities to earmark and celebrate the day,”.

Activities scheduled to commemorate the celebrations includes practical activities in Mathematics, debate on Mathematics related motions, Mathematics quiz competitions, Mathematics fairs, solving of word problems, solving of past questions by BECE and WASSCE candidates, Mathematics related career counselling sessions, a talk on the theme for the celebration and the playing of Maths games.

Images and pictures on celebration activities should be sent to Vivian via WhatsApp while should officially be forwarded to Director’s office on Monday, February 17, 2020, for onward submission,” the letter also said.
