Free SHS is an Emotional Issue for the President- Finance Minister

The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Attah has expressed the president’s commitment to the Free Senior High School (Free-SHS) education policy. He said that the Free SHS is an emotional issue for the president.

The Finance Minister also said that for the first time in the history of the country, all Ghanaians are entitled to Free Senior High School education. The Finance Minister said this during the 2019 budget reading in the parliament of Ghana today.

The Free SHS policy has been lauded by some Ghanaians, however, conversations of the double track system are still ongoing. Due to the high number of students enrolled in Senior High School, the government has resorted to the double track system to help deal with the high number of intake to keep them all in school.

Ken Ofori-Attah however, also said that in a period of 3 years, parents are empowered economically because they save about GHC 6045.00 which they would have spent in taking their kids through Senior High School.
