GHANA MARKS NATIONAL CYBER SECURITY WEEK

It is National Cyber Security week and Ghana is marking the week from the 23rd to the 27th October 2017. The celebration is on the theme; ‘Securing Ghana’s Digital Journey’. The celebration comes in October, same month the world marks Global Cyber Security Awareness month.

The program for the week’s celebration brings together stakeholders in the industry to deliberate and create awareness on how the country can protect itself, its systems and citizens from cyber attacks. This comes at a time Ghana is introducing various digital solutions and initiatives to enhance efficiency in state institutions.
The Ministry of Communications which is the organiser of the week has outlined activities such as thought leadership and training sessions, demonstrations, panel discussions, and exhibitions.

In a statement issued by the Communications Ministry, sector minister Ursula Owusu said the week offers an opportunity for sharing and engagement, which is key in building a strong cyber security ecosystem in Ghana. She assured that digitization efforts will be scaled in the country, since it is vital to improve cyber preparedness and security.

Government has established a National Cyber Security Secretariat within the Ministry of Communication to develop plans which will protect the country’s systems from cyber attacks.
As part of an exhibition in Accra, actors in the industry will showcase their services at the Accra International Conference Centre. There will be other events at the Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT in Accra.
