Ghanaian Becomes First Black Female Neurosurgeon

Mrs Nancy Abu Bonsrah joins the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in the Department of Neurosurgery. This makes her the first black female neurosurgeon trained in the school’s 124 years of existence.

All fourth year medical students across the United States including those from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine participated in ‘Match Day’, a countdown to find out where they will begin their residency training this summer.

Mrs Abu Bonsrah is originally from Ghana, born to Mr Seth Abu Bonsrah and Mrs Georgina Abu Bonsrah. This achievement makes Nancy the first Physician in her family. She attended Mount St. Mary University in Maryland and earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry/ Chemistry, then joined Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2012, to pursue Doctor of Medicine, Medicine.
