An Accra High Court has ordered the release of the results of 20 candidates whose papers were cancelled after the 2017 Basic Education Certification Examinations (BECE).
The candidates had their results cancelled after the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) claimed they had colluded to cheat during the exams. But, they dragged the examinations council to court accusing it of breaching their fundamental human rights.
The proprietor of the A to Z Preparatory JHS Godwin Aaron Monyo told JoyNews that the cancellation of the paper dented the school’s reputation.
It is not clear if these students are part of 1,298 candidates whose results were withheld by WAEC in August 2017 on suspicion of examination malpractices.
These 1,298 candidates were found to have cheated in the objective test section of the examination by the Item Differentia Profile (IDP) software.
