Last week, I saw an interesting picture of a famous TV host on social media and my first instinct was to laugh. Note that I didn’t laugh to mock her, but I was surprised at how much a person could change within a particular space.
Most people who know her now may not be able to recognize her without the accompanying caption explaining the picture. Fans who came across the picture on social media wowed, liked, commented and shared the picture on their timelines for others to see.
I realized that right in front of me was an important message on progress we tend to ignore often. Usually, we fail to recognize that progress does not just happen, but it requires hard, dedication, discipline and consistency.
No one became who they are overnight. It took a number of small, steady and series of progress to make them the successful people that they are today. Even those who won life-changing lotteries didn’t win the first time they played; it took several attempts to win the prize money.
Some of us are too hard on ourselves when things don’t happen when we need them to happen. We don’t recognize and celebrate the little progress we make in our corner. We spend all our time awaiting a big breakthrough without recognizing that we have been winning small victories.

Hence, we forget that success is a summation of a series of breakthroughs. For instance, Shatta Wale or Stoneboy didn’t just become who they are but had to write a series of hit songs to get to where they are. In the same vein, Oheneyere Gifty Anti (OGA) didn’t just become the Inspiring Oheneyere Gifty Anti (OGA) we are now acquainted with overnight. She worked hard and learned a lot of lessons on her journey to greatness.
Today is Monday; spend time wining in your corner by smashing all the goals you have set for yourself today. Don’t overlook the power of consistency and small wins.
