In our part of the world, mental health and its related issues are not given the needed attention due to various reasons. This is because there is scant knowledge on the symptoms of mental health issues, their cure and prevention methods. Also, to protect the family name, the identity and image of the patient, early treatment is sought for ailing persons. To curb this problem, PsychAid & Love Outreach, which is a mental health awareness and advocacy organization was started in 2015.
PsychAid’s mission is to bridge the gap between persons living with various mental health conditions in the society. The outreach achieves its mission through awareness creation and public education on mental health related issues and to reduce stigma and misconceptions associated with it.
Through various platforms like social media, church campaigns, our quarterly mental health breakfast meeting (PsychUp Breakfast Meeting), High Schools Outreach and their latest program, Hug A Mum, a Post-Partum Depression Awareness Campaign, the outreach creates awareness.
PsychAid envisions a society that has an appreciable level of knowledge about mental health issues, consequently reflecting in their thought and actions related to individuals with mental health. The core values of the outreach are Integrity, Empathy, Objectivity, Confidentiality and Non-discriminatory.
Since its inception, the group has visited the 3 main psychiatric hospitals to visit and donate to the patients.
They are poised to support the Mental Health Authority to push the Mental Health message across the nation.
