Students Appeal for Completion of Classroom Block

Students and pupils of the Fiapre Girls Model School in the Sunyani West District have appealed to the District Assembly to facilitate speedy completion of the six-unit classroom block for the school.

Currently, the school has partitioned a three-unit classroom to contain pupils and students from primary four to Junior High School, a situation, which according to school authorities was creating congestion and affecting effective teaching and learning.

To address the problem, last year the District Assembly broke the ground for work to begin on construction of a six-unit classroom block estimated at the cost of GH¢420,000.00.

The project which has an ICT centre, staff room, offices and three-seater toilet is expected to be completed in March 2019.

Though Engineer Beatrice Afia Agyare, the project consultant said it would be completed as scheduled, the students are uncomfortable over the slow pace of construction and called on the District Assembly to monitor.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during a visit to the project site at Fiapre as part of a STAR Ghana monitoring project, Mr Godwin Iwarah, the Assistant Headmaster of the School commended the Assembly for the project and called for its speedy completion.

He pleaded with parents to support the education and proper upbringing and development of their children by providing them with basic school needs that would sustain their children’s interest in school.

The 18-month STAR Ghana project is being implemented by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and Sustainable Mission Aid (SMAid), an international NGO in parts of Brong-Ahafo Region.

It is aimed at monitoring specific educational and social projects constructed by some selected District Assemblies to ensure its completion within schedule.

It also seeks to strengthen media and CSOs collaboration for inclusive and accountable local governance in the country.

Mr Michael Oppong Kumi, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Public Relations Officer of SMAid, advised the school authorities to monitor and supervise the execution of the project to avoid shoddy and inferior works.
