Teachers urged to protect school children from kidnappers

Basic school teachers have been advised by Sunyani Municipal Director of Education, Theresa Kyere-Boakye to check the movements of pupils to protect them against kidnappers during school hours.

She also urged parents to pick their children after school hours as early as possible to avoid endangering their lives.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani on Wednesday, Mrs Kyere-Boakye said teachers are entrusted to protect school children from harm by diligently developing interest, going closer and by spending precious time with pupils and students.

She cautioned that the threat of kidnapping was real and advised school children to avoid gift offers and free ride from strangers.

Mrs. Kyere-Boakye also entreated parents and guardians to monitor the movements of their children and wards, and provide them with basic educational materials to sustain their interest to stay in school.

She warned teachers against absenteeism and tasked basic school Heads to impose sanctions on truant teachers or report them to the Directorate.

She commended teachers engaged under the Nation Builders Corps (NaBCo) for their level of punctuality and discipline and asked them to continue with dedication to impact positively on pupils and students.
