THE COMMEMORATION OF WORLD DIABETES DAY AND THE MANAGEMENT OF TYPE 1 DIABETES

World diabetes day is a universally celebrated event that is, organized to create awareness on the ragging global effects of diabetes. The day is set aside to bring to attention the need to help eradicate or minimize the spread of diabetes.  In commemoration of the day, we will be throwing more light on type 1 diabetes which usually occurs in children.

 Type 1 diabetes is a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin. Insulin is a hormone needed to allow sugar (glucose) to enter cells to produce energy. Getting type 1 diabetes could be due to genetics or viruses although, it usually occurs in children or teens it can also occur in adults.

Treatment usually focuses on managing blood levels with insulin, diet and lifestyle change to prevent complications. It is interesting to note symptoms can occur suddenly and may include increased thirst, frequent urination, bed wetting in children, unintended weight loss, fatigue, weakness ad blurred visions.

It could also lead to damaging complications such as heart and blood vessel disease, nerve damage, kidney damage and eye damage. There is no way of preventing type one diabetes but medical researchers are working around the clock t help investigate lasting solutions to type 1 diabetes.

Diet matters when it comes to effectively managing type 1 diabetes. Unhealthy diet will increase ones chances of complications, it therefore important one considers eating a healthy balanced diet devoid of excessive sugar. Plan your meal ahead and stock your fridge with better food choices.

Daily exercise is also a crucial factor in managing type 1 diabetes. It is important to stay fit as a fiddle if you want to beat type 1 diabetes. Nothing strenuous; long walks, skipping and sit-ups should do the trick.

Taking your medication is a very important factor to also consider in managing the disease. Take your medication always, skipping a dose could be detrimental to your health. You can set a daily alarm to help remember to take your medication on time.

Having type I  diabetes is not the end of the world, effectively managing it could be a lasting solution to enjoying good health. Spend some time to learn more about the disease and other methods of managing it.
