The University of Ghana has been named as the highest-ranking university in Ghana and West Africa after it placed 15th on the Africa Webometrics for July 2020.
The objectives of these rankings are to promote web publication, supporting open access initiatives and electronic access to scientific publications and other academic materials.
The Webometrics is the largest academic ranking in higher education and is an initiative of Cybermetrics Lab a research group belonging to the ‘Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas’ (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain providing reliable, multidimensional, updated and useful information about the performance of universities all over the world based on their web presence and impact.
Indicators used for these rankings include presence (public knowledge shared), impact (web contents impact), openness (top-cited researchers) and excellence (top-cited papers).
This ranking also aims to give potential students and other stakeholders a look into a university’s achievements, profile and activities and places the university above its peers within a specific time.
